The Vintage Racing League: A Network for Car Enthusiasts

Those involved in the collector car and vintage racing sports commonly remark that they remain avidly involved in the hobby not only because of their passion for specialty vehicles, but also because of the great camaraderie amongst fellow hobbyists. In fact, many state that the friendships they have made while participating in car clubs and events are some of the greatest relationships of their lives. With the more events we attend, the more friends we seem to make!

According to data collected by the Vintage Racing League, there are approximately four million vintage car owners in the nation. Car collectors are spread out all over the country…and the world! The networking opportunities seem limitless.

And, Stephen Page, a vintage race car enthusiast and the co-founder of The VRL, says that in years to come, even more people will become involved in the hobby, as an estimated 75 million U.S.-based baby boomers hit retirement and seek new outlets for their wealth and spare time.

With this in mind, and knowing that vintage car owners love to network, Stephen set out to create a new platform on which everyone involved in the collector car hobby could unite. He named it The Vintage Racing League and feverishly worked to launch two separate Web sites: www.thevrl.com and www.myvrl.com, during the past year.

The computer and Internet savvy may be aware of “social networking Web sites” such as Myspace, Facebook, Friendster, Bebo and a variety of others. And, as technology continues to advance, more and more car enthusiasts are using e-mail and the Internet as a means of keeping in touch, making plans, finding information on clubs, events, parts and services and learning more about the hobby, as a whole.

Stephen set off to combine all of the aforementioned when launching his sites. Myvrl.com, specifically, is the social networking site. There, you can design a custom page and post photos and videos to an online album.  And, after inviting friends to join or finding that they are already members of The VRL, you can link their pages to yours by adding them to your “My Friends” space on your personal site. You can keep in touch with all of your fellow hobbyists by sending private online “messages” (similar to e-mail) or by leaving comments on their page, for all to see.

This networking site also provides an opportunity to create and join a variety of different groups. Some current groups are: Alfa Romeo Owners, Formula Car Owners, Jaguar, Lamborghini, Sports Car Club of America and Grundy Worldwide. Here, you can keep on top of news and updates about your favorite vehicles, different club happenings and even your collector vehicle insurance company. The site also provides space to advertise the sale of your vehicles. Blogging is another option.

The site also links you to Thevrl.com, where you can learn “How to get into Vintage Racing,” find vintage car clubs, see what events are being held throughout the country and browse through the site’s Central Marketplace, where you can search for apparel, parts, services, cars and more.

“My hope is that this becomes the world’s largest online community for people who love vintage cars,” says Stephen. “I would like this to be the definitive portal for those who love vintage racing.”

In hopes of helping our customers connect with other collector car enthusiast, Grundy Worldwide extends an invitation for all to join our group in this network. For more information please visit the site today! www.myvrl.com.
