News and Information from The Gold Standard of Collector Vehicle Insurance May 2011

Over 60 Years after the Grundy’s started the Hobby, the U.S. Senate Declares July 8, 2011 “Collector Car Appreciation Day”

Car enthusiasts across the country will celebrate the collector car hobby on “Collector Car Appreciation Day” – July 8, 2011.

The history of the hobby, as we know it today, started when Jim Grundy’s grandfather, Sam Baily, rescued a 1909 Pierce-Arrow from a scrap yard in Philadelphia, in the early 1940’s.  Many collectors are familiar with the early years of antique automobile restoration and preservation; however, for those who are not, we offer you some of the details about the start of the hobby.

Michigan Insurance Agent Says Her Customers Chose Grundy Over Other Insurers "99.5% of the Time."

Vilma Smathers, a Grundy Insurance agent from Riverview, Mich., says that while she may be located closer to other collector car insurance companies, she chooses Grundy (based just north of Philadelphia) when providing her customers with Agreed Value insurance policies for specialty vehicles.

In reality, she let the customers choose Grundy.

Vilma says that, in the past, when customers applied for coverage for their collector cars, she gave them price quotes and coverage details from two companies; and, she let the customers choose.

“I ran quotes from both Grundy and Hagerty,” says Vilma. “Ninety-nine percent of the time, they would go with Grundy Insurance. Because of the price and other features, they chose Grundy.  Actually, it’s more like 99.5 percent of the time.  They have always chosen Grundy.  Grundy offers more and has better coverage for less money.  Customers appreciate that. And, I do, too!”

Because her customers were consistent with their choices, Vilma chose to use only Grundy Insurance.

Accident Prevention: Ten Tips from Grundy

Grundy Insurance knows that your collector car is one of your most cherished possessions, and we work hard to make sure that your vehicles have the best protection possible. While accidents do happen, we thought we might share some tips on preventing a claim.

Tip #1: Safety Comes First--
Many collector cars are very powerful, with tons of horsepower and "umph," but when behind the wheel of a lean, mean driving machine, safety must come first. Lots of horsepower requires a lot of control. If you're driving a vehicle with a lot of power, you must know how to keep control of your vehicle. It's important to make sure that you react to the road and other drivers, while making sure your car responds in time.

Tip #2: Invest in an Anti-Theft Device-- This may seem to take away from the originality of a vehicle; but, the pros outweigh the cons. It is a smart idea to invest in an anti-theft device, whether it is a kill switch device, LoJack, or passive or active alarm system. Ask yourself: “Which would I rather have? A car with an anti-theft device or no car at all?”
