July 27, 2012 Jim Grundy Takes A Cup At St. John’s Concours d’Elegance
A nationally known car guy like Jim Grundy must expect to be asked to do more than simply display one of his collector vehicles at the prestigious Concours d’Elegance of America at St. John’s. And so it was. Approached by the committee to judge the field, Jim decided to not only to judge the show, but to exhibit and also participate in the driving tour leading up to the event. Jim’s family has collected important cars since the early 1930s (and invented agreed value insurance in 1947 to protect them), so there were a variety of possibilities of which car to show. In the end the choice was easy. Jim brought his 1908 Lozier touring car which is a very large, very powerful, and very rare (the only one!) early brass era automobile. This was the first time the car had been shown in a concours but it brought home a cup all the same.
