The Ft. Lauderdale Antique Automobile Antique Car Museum is a reproduction of a Packard showroom from the 1920's. Arthur and Shirley Stone began collecting Packard memorabilia for their museum in the mid-1940s. At the time, Packard was the Rolls Royce of American automobiles. These automobiles were some of the finest cars ever made, and the workmanship is hard to find even today.
When you visit, you will see a piece of this great American automotive history. All 26 of the Packards in the museum are in full working order. Mr. Stone, who is in his 80's, has driven each of them. There are roadsters with compartments for golf clubs, a doctor's coupe with a compartment for his medical bag and a 1929 645 Dual Cowl Phaeton that can self-lubricate its chassis as it drives along the road.
The 18,000 square foot building is stocked with thousands of pieces of memorabilia. There are hundreds of old dashboard clocks that must be wound by hand, hood ornaments from all makes of cars, rare carburetors, period side lamps, custom gear shirt knobs and much more.
"It's the great American love story! Americans have had an incredible love affair with their cars," says Mr. Stone. "This museum is a place for everyone to revisit that."
The museum is now available for corporate functions, fundraisers, private parties, special events, weddings and so-forth. And, special rates are available for group tours and school and camp field trips.
