The ALLURE of Rallies & Tours 1 O ur goal for this book was to capture some of the best-known national, international, club, and specialty Tours that take place every year. We wanted to take an independent look at touring and in the process, we hope to entertain, inform and encour- age you to participate in Tours while helping you understand which is the best fit for you and your car based on year, make and model of vehicle you own. We understand Ferraris don’t play nicely with Brass Era cars, etc. Keep in mind an annual tour like the Copperstate 1000, the CCCA CARavan or a na- tional AACA Tour is the brand identity of the organization. The routes, attractions and accommodations change every year, so those who participate in these events year after year continue to have new experiences.   This tour book is presented by Grundy Insurance, Jim Grundy and the Grundy family, who are no strangers to tour- ing. It is through their passion and love of cars that the con- cept for this project was born. Jim Grundy felt compelled to reach like-minded enthusiasts and create a reference and resource guide aimed at providing great detail on how to get involved in touring regardless of the level on which you wish to participate. Our goal is to encourage car owners who are looking for an experience beyond showing a car at an event or participating in a local Cars and Coffee gathering. We’ll walk you through all the steps in creating a driving tour, things to avoid, and what to know before participating on a tour. I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the clubs and organizations who spent so much time collaborating with me on this project. Through their contributions I was able to gath- er the content that would ultimately make this book project come to life. Speaking of the book, it quickly became apparent that there are so many wonderful tour and rallies offered that we decided to departmentalize the different tours so you could better understand your option based on the experience you may seek. Within these pages we give a glimpse or examples of tours with the goal of incorporating this information in more detail on our website. We also wanted to give special credit to some national clubs and tour organizers that supported us un- conditionally throughout this process. As we have come to find out, without their knowledge, insight, and experiences, there would be a huge void in the industry.  They say, “Don’t judge a book by its cover”. Our goal was to make the book warm, inviting, fun and friendly. In this case, I feel our cover captures the essence of the book. The presen- tation of this book was a collaboration with a very close and highly respected friend, Jennifer Remias. Her eye for design, color, presentation and layout makes her, in my opinion, one of the best graphic artists in the business. I can’t begin to thank her enough for all her support and commitment to this project. She also introduced me to Pete Coffin, who would take on the lion’s share of the detail work in keeping us on point with our deadlines and consistent in our overall presentation. He too became an excellent addition to the team. In closing, a special “thank you” goes out to Jim Grundy of Grundy Insurance for his support of this project, Rich and Jean Taylor of Vintage Rallies for their time and editing sup- port of this book. Also thanks to HCCA (Horseless Carriage Club of America) for their wealth of knowledge, and all the content they shared that was necessary in making this project creditable; the CCCA (Classic Car Club of America) for open- ing their library; and the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America) for an historical look into the past, helping us carve out the future. Now all that’s left is for you to get out there and enjoy your ride.  The Incredible Lure of Rallies & Tours f o r e w o r d Happy Motoring,    Jeffrey Broadus  Foreward_001.indd 1 12/23/17 11:15 AM
